WHO WE ARE 

We are the oldest Jewish institution serving the communities of Whitestone, Malba, Beechhurst, Bayside, Bay Terrace, College Point and parts of Flushing. The Whitestone Hebrew Centre, under the religious leadership of Rabbi Steven Axelman, is administered by a Board of Trustees and Officers elected by the membership. Numerous volunteer committees involve many of our members in the day to day administration of our synagogue. Warmth and dynamism are the hallmarks of the Whitestone Hebrew Centre. The Congregation reflects a deep commitment to the equality of men and women in every aspect of synagogue life. Our membership is diverse in age, interests and occupations. Interfaith families are welcomed!

WHERE WE ARE

Our Synagogue is located on the corner of Clintonville Street and 12th Road. We are close to the Cross Island Parkway and the Whitestone Expressway, with easy access from all sections of Queens.

SISTERHOOD

Affiliated with Women's League for Conservative Judaism, Sisterhood welcomes both members and non-members of the Congregation to its ranks. It sponsors many programs and activities throughout the year both inside the Synagogue and at outside venues. In addition, Sisterhood publishes a New Years Greeting booklet and maintains a Prayer Book Fund. Sisterhood raises funds for our Synagogue and for the Jewish Theological Seminary Torah Fund.  

ADULT EDUCATION

 

The Congregation's Adult Education programs seek to provide adults with an opportunity to acquire or extend their knowledge of the language, philosophy, history and religion of the Jewish People. Our programs feature Bible study, classes in  Hebrew, Jewish history, Jewish philosophy, Jewish texts and adult Bar/Bat Mitzvah training.

BAR/BAT MITZVAH INSTRUCTION

Special instruction is offered to boys and girls who are approaching their Bar/Bat Mitzvah, including the melodies used in chanting the Torah, Haftarah and the prayer service.

PUBLICATIONS

The Whitestone Hebrew Centre issues a monthly bulletin that keeps our membership informed about important events and occasions as well as general news of the congregational community. Special announcements are mailed and/or emailed as appropriate.
